Veeco MS-40 Leak Detector

The former Veeco Instruments family of leak detectors is now manufactured, sold and serviced by Vacuum Instrument Corporation (VIC). It is also sold as an Edwards Spectron 600.
The MS-40 combines high test port pressure with a large capacity internal mechanical pump. The MS-40 utilizes a 180° deflection dual magnetic sector mass spectrometer tube with built in high vacuum ion gauge. Two long life, low current filaments are provided. A self cleaning heated repeller and automatic closed loop emission control are at the heart of the MS-40 leak detector design. Heavy ion traps reduce the need for deionization of the mass spectrometer tube by an order of magnitude. The mass spectrometer is sensitive to Helium Mass 3 or Mass 4 and is operator selectable.
The ability to perform direct flow leak detection allows for orders of magnitude cleaner leak detection than reverse flow only leak detectors. For applications which don't require 100% dry leak detection, the ability to do direct flow only leak detection with the conventional MS-40 can offer an alternative to purchasing a dry leak detector.
Features and Benefits:
- Simple one-button start up. The MS40 system is ready in less than three minutes with zero operator intervention.
- Fully automatic operation, tuning and calibration. Reduces operator training, making the MS40 the easiest to use and most automated portable in the industry
- Three modes of operation in a single unit. Direct mode can be used for higher sensitivity. Reverse mode is available for faster cycle time. Combination mode for automatic switching between reverse and direct flow is also available to the operator. Built in test diagnostics display system error codes and isolate faults for trouble-free maintenance and quick repair.
- Mini-sniffer probe port. Allows simple sniffing operation through a dedicated sniffer port connection.
- Turbo pump with liquid lubricated ceramic bearing. Provides the ability to perform preventative maintenance. Greatly increases turbo life. Less heat and better lubrication than grease lubricated bearing.
- Solenoid valves designed specifically for vacuum use. Valves last up to 20 million cycles.
- Dual magnetic sector mass spectrometer with resolving power of 14. Lower background levels during testing. Leak detector does not mistake adjacent peaks for helium.
- The industry's only de-scan switch allows for positive identification of helium at any time during testing.
- RS-232 port provides for external control. Ideal for integrating to automated control systems and personal computers.
